You Are Strong and Gentle

A poem for all my fellow “resilient” people

You are so much stronger than you think — and so much stronger than you should have to be.

Your journey has hardened you. You have been knocked down time and time again. Your pain is real and valid. You should not have to hold so much. I know you hate hearing you are resilient. If you never heard that word again, it wouldn’t be soon enough.

So instead, I will tell you that you are beautiful, soft, delicate, and fragile. You are tough and you have a childlike wonder inside you. You have been protecting your inner child. It is safe to love on them, to be kind to them, to show them what respect and communication are like. You have adventures and peace ahead of you in this life.

Your armor worked and it is okay to take it off sometimes.

The wounds
This world
Gave you
Only wove
Magic
Into your armor.
