I wanted to tell you a little bit more about the structure of my next collection, Ungodly.

Ungodly is broken up into four chapters. The four chapters are:
⁃ The Fallen
⁃ The Healing
⁃ The Appalling
⁃ The Godly

Over the next few weeks, I want to share a bit about each chapter. These chapters have many purposes. They move the story along and set the tone for each section of the collection. Some sections cover more difficult topics than others, which allows the reader to prepare, skip ahead, or whatever needs they may have.

The chapters were an important step for me in my creative and emotional journey. I feel I was finally able to draw lines between emotions that are alerting me to current danger, emotions that are directly tied to my trauma, and revel in my positive emotions. Some of the chapters deal with trauma while others deal with nostalgia, the beautiful moments of the past we didn’t appreciate enough in the moment, as well as accepting your whole identity, no matter what it is (queer, disabled, survivor, etc).

Ungodly is roughly 200 pages. I wanted those pages to feel digestible and so each chapter has between 30–40 poems.

I can’t wait to tell you more about the first chapter “The Fallen.” I can’t wait to do a deep dive into it next week! Stay tuned.
