There are so many kinds of therapy (and therapists). While I think that everyone can benefit from therapy, DBT has been the most helpful therapy for me, hands down!

DBT is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy! I find it more helpful than traditional talk therapy or CBT as it really taught me skills in emotion regulation and interpersonal relationships that I never knew existed! I joke that I wasn’t taught how to be a person, but DBT truly gave me the skills I was lacking.

I also participate in brain spotting with my DBT therapist. Brain spotting is a newer form of EMDR. EMDR is eye movement desensitization and reprocessing; it is a form of psychotherapy where someone can recall distressing experiences whilst doing bilateral stimulation, such as side-to-side eye movement or tapping either side of the body. This has been shown to be helpful in processing particularly traumatic memories, especially in those with PTSD.

Do you participate in therapy? Do you have a favorite kind?

Brain Spotting

When I was being swept away
In a stream of consciousness,
Icy memories threatening
To chill me to the bone
Before dragging me under,
You were there.
Suddenly, You reminded me
You are always there.
Why do you so
Doubt
