A Poem

Photo by Ryoji Iwata on Unsplash

I’ve seen you so many times
Since then,
And I’m sure you saw me too.
How strange that we act
Like strangers when
You’ve seen beneath
All of my layers,
Peeled the skin back from my body
So you could rot inside of me.
We don’t smile.
We don’t even sneak a glance,
Just caution ourselves through
Peripheral mirrors
Reflecting our greatest demons.
