Next to You: A Poem

A Poem about the give and take of love

We forget how easy it is
To just breathe
Next to someone.
I do not need your words,
Though I will gladly
Lend you my ear.
I do not need your gaze,
But that subtle glance you give
Sets my skin ablaze.
I do not need your reassurance,
But it wraps me up
Like a soft blanket
In a warm room
In December.
I do not need your love,
But would it be selfish
To ask for it just because?
