Make Love, Not War

A Poem

I always thought this
Had to be difficult.
If I didn’t fight for love
How on earth could I die for it?
If I didn’t fight with my love
Did I even care at all?
I could never see the
Healthier alternative.
A compassionate solution
Always seemed like a delusion.
With you, I can feel
And you will not scream.
You’ll listen.
You’ll understand.
You’ll try.
And every single day
I pry the door to my soul
Open a little more.
I’ve never invited anyone
To make a home inside,
Worried they’ll break
The snow globes and
My fragile self image.
Every item in my heart
Was curated for one to see;
I never realized
Two hearts could beat
Peacefully in sync.
With you, I can pass words
Like love notes;
I can be open without
Fear of retribution.
We can pass our feelings
Around like simple objects
Used to meet the goal:
Loving each other.
