Have You Heard of This Common Disease?
March is Endometriosis awareness month. While you might not think this month affects you or is important to you, you are probably wrong. Endometriosis is a huge public health issue, not to mention an economic crisis. One study even found that Endometriosis costs up to $30,000 per year per patient. Please note there is a poem at the end of this piece that describes the experience of being misdiagnosed and experiencing chronic pain for over a decade without answers.

You are not alone. And if you do know what Endometriosis is, there is a good chance you have learned the wrong definition. Endometriosis is a chronic, inflammatory condition that occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus, the endometrium, is found in other parts of the body. It causes debilitating pain and other symptoms, is one of the most painful conditions known to man, and has been found in every organ of the body.
