Annie, Are You Okay?

A Poem

Every time that song plays,
I genuinely want to reach out
Ask,
“Are you okay?”
Because it doesn’t seem
Many things have changed.
You’re still dating girls -
And I mean girls -
With completely different
Life experiences
Based on age alone.
You’re still getting in
Petty internet squabbles
With the girls you
Carved out until
They were hollow.
You still paint yourself
As the world’s victim.
When will you realize you are
The common denominator
In the holes in the walls,
The screaming matches,
The late nights of abuse
And coming home drunk
After making out with
A woman at the bar?
The problem was always you.
The problem continues to be you.
So genuinely,
Are you okay?
